Good piece. I think there are other ways you can get around the paywalls, but what I would really like is for the prices set where everyone can afford to read what they want/need to read.

Think about NPR/PBS: You know there is good stuff there. If you can’t afford to support your local station, you can still listen. You will have to listen to all the calls for donations, but you can listen. Here in the Los Angeles area, the NPR station puts up a tote bag free stream for donors. Donate any amount and you get a link to the stream.

Another option? Pay people a living wage. Make it so people can afford to live. Take the cost out of the giant paychecks of the people on the top. Take this idea to its limit and people get paid a certain amount every year — regardless of need, ability, talent, or current job. Those that can earn more, will. Those that can’t will be given the chance to have enough to pay for daily expenses (the disabled, the people whose talents aren’t appreciated, the people that are underprivileged or oppressed, etc.)

Thanks for this thought provoking piece. Looking forward to more from you… hoping you don’t put all your future stuff behind the paywall that is Medium Members Only.
